We are Chorus Iceni, an all-women’s group and we love to sing unaccompanied 4-part harmony.
There are over 40 of us and we rehearse weekly in Colchester at Cardinal Bourne Hall on Priory Street. Our repertoire ranges from Abba to Queen and everything in between; our varied rehearsals cover vocal techniques and performance skills but above all – we have fun! We sing at all sorts of events – private functions, concerts, local and national competitions – in fact, happy to take our music anywhere. Every year we take part in a national competition as a member of the Ladies Association of British Barbershop Singers (LABBS) where 1800 like-minded women get together to share their love of this wonderful hobby.
We have recently appointed award- winning Musical Director Gaynor Schofield, who brings with her a wealth of experience.
We are always looking for new members who enjoy singing and who can bring energy to a performance. You don’t need to read music, but you need to sing in tune; you don’t need to be able to sing solo, but you do need to enjoy being part of a team. If this sounds like you, then why not come along and have a go. It’s fun and very rewarding – and there’s a voice part for everyone from the highest soprano to the lowest alto.
